Engineered
Wood Products (EWP)
are just the beginning when it comes to SPC's commitment to
conserving our environment. Our Design process begins with the premise of
how can we most efficiently provide the proper structure for the project.
We choose to distribute Louisiana Pacifc products partly due to
thier commitment to renewable building products.
Are You
Building Green?
Next, we have invested in Computer Technologies and training to reduce
environmental impacts in a number of ways. For example, we accept (encourage)
Builders / Architects / Clients to Email us drawing files in a variety of
formats in order to reduce the number of paper copies generated for a project.
This also saves drive time and improves accuracy and speed in the design/drafting
process. Then we email thier completed plans back to reduce our environmental impact even more.
Our Information Technology Department created a series of applications that
allow us to Track and Optimize the use of our inventory. With
applications like ProLogic, SPC combines its many data
streams, CAD Files, Quotes, Cutsheets, Delivery Schedules, Production Schedules
and Inventory management into a single application that allows us to reduce our environmental impact in all facets of
operations resulting in utilization rates of almost 96% of the Raw materials we
stock.
Does that mean we put that 4+% of 'manufacturing' waste in a landfill?
Not at SPC it doesn't!! We invested in our
grinding operation to
reduce that cut-off waste to an Environmentally Sound Mulch, which we then sell
/ provide to landscapers, chicken houses and biofuel generators.
Environmentally Sound EWP Mulch? Yes!,
according to this University Of Georgia Study.
(See the Pictures on the right).
While our Grinder Operation Equipment is in Norcross, we also grind our branch plant's
waste by 'back hauling' thier cut offs to Norcross utilizing BOTH directions of
inventory transfers rather than having an empty truck in one direction or the
other. |
